Ease of Use
The following examination of an everyday object - the blade found in a typical razor - demonstrates that analysis is fast as well as simple.
Firstly the sample is loaded into the instrument, and a secondary electron image is used to locate the area for analysis.
2 minutes
How it works
The peak identification software and data library show that the sample is a steel blade with a fluorocarbon coating.
4 minutes
Overlaying the secondary ion images of Fe+ (steel) and CF+ (fluorocarbon) shows the distribution and uniformity of the coating.
7 minutes
How it works
Etching the blade near the cutting edge reveals chromium under the original fluorocarbon coating. Finally, re-imaging the blade shows the chromium layer to be a narrow band along the cutting edge.
18 minutes
How it works
A complete analysis in less than 20 minutes!
